Many citizens of Split will proudly talk about their city as the most beautiful in the world and its first inhabitant, the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The Diocletian’s Palace was built 1700 years ago as the first summer residence in the world. Today it is the heart of the city, a monument to cultural heritage and one of the best-preserved late antique villas under the protection of UNESCO.
